With the growing number of developments in biopharmaceutical products, Esco VacciXcell offers a novel Tide Motion technology which is a patented single-use, linearly scalable, bioprocessing method. The name “Tide Motion” derives from the cyclical low and high tides experienced by bodies of water on earth. Similarly, Tide Motion uses an up-and-down liquid flow to provide oxygen and nutrients to the adherent cells in culture.

This method includes closed automated cell harvesting preparation (0.1 L packed bed volume) to production (5,000 L packed bed volume: equivalent to a 50,000 L suspension culture) all in the same vessel.

Bioreactors can be configured to run in batch or perfusion (continuous) mode and use the Tide Motion principle for mixing. This has the highest kLa of any bioprocess method known. This extremely low shear stress bioprocessing method allows the user to achieve cell densities for VERO cells up to 1.2x108cells/mL.



Moreover, it allows stem cells to maintain cell shape and characteristics that mimic in vivo conditions. Stem cells also maintain their pluripotency, which was demonstrated by differentiating them into three lineages of chondrocytes, adipocytes, and osteocytes. These stem cells also had no tumorigenicity when tested on mice.
