Esco Aster provides specialized cell culture media development, optimization, benchmarking, and cost-reduction services across cell therapy, gene therapy, extracellular vesicles, and advanced biomanufacturing applications.

Our capabilities span from media formulation and ingredient qualification to process-specific optimization and commercial-scale media supply. We leverage qualified Asia-Pacific suppliers and alternative raw materials—from amino acids and growth factors to functional additives—to identify cost-effective alternatives without compromising critical performance attributes.

With a track record spanning cell-based nutrition and food manufacturing, stem cell bioprocessing, viral vector production, and extracellular vesicle/exosome manufacturing, Esco Aster is positioned to work with startups and established organizations at different stages of development.

Media development can be provided as a standalone service or integrated with our cell line creation, cell line development, process development, and biomanufacturing services, enabling media and cell/process parameters to be optimized together rather than independently.

Specialized Media Development

Esco Aster specializes in developing and optimizing media for both conventional and advanced 3D cell culture platforms, including our fixed packed bed Tide Motion bioreactor (adherent cells and derivatives) or TideWave™ bioreactor (immune cell and derivatives), suspension bioreactors in orbital format (10L) or stirred tank 500L (with or without microcarrier culture).

Media Cost-Down & Reformulation

Esco Aster can reformulate existing commercial or proprietary media to achieve a more competitive cost structure while maintaining the required biological performance.

Examples include:

  • Conversion of premium media into lower-cost, food-grade-equivalent formulations for cell-based nutrition.
  • Development of lower-cost medical-aesthetic-grade media for secretome and extracellular vesicle/exosome production
  • Conversion to animal-component-free, serum-free, chemically defined formulations

Media Enhancers & Cell Activation Systems

Viral Vector & Virus Production

For high-density 3D viral production, excessive cellular stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation can negatively affect cell health and viral productivity. Esco Aster develops virus-specific enhancement strategies designed to modulate cellular stress and improve viral productivity, where appropriate.

Potential applications include:

  • Viral titer enhancement through modulation of oxidative stress and ROS
  • Small-molecule strategies to modulate host-cell antiviral responses, supporting improved infection, transduction, or replication

Exosome & Extracellular Vesicle Production

Esco Aster Cell Culture Media Products

Esco Aster has developed the following cell cuture media products for specific production cell lines and applications, including:

  • Vero+ — optimized media platform for Vero cell applications with addition of ROS depleter for high cell density virus growth in 3D Tide Motion Bioreactors.
  • MDCK+ — optimized media platform for MDCK cell applications with addition of ROS depleter for high cell density virus growth in 3D Tide Motion Bioreactors.
  • Super+ — chemically defined animal component free media as serum-replacement designed to reduce dependence on conventional Fetal Bovine Serum with recombinant proteins for enhanced cell attachment for Tide Motion bioreactors.

For qualified formulations, Esco Aster can provide dry-powder blended media (made by qualified partners) as well as liquid media manufacturing and contract filling through our food-grade and clinical/ gmp grade manufacturing capabilities, with MOQ options from approximately 500 L for bottled media, subject to formulation and product requirements.

Esco Aster can also provide cold chain storage and work with 3rd Party Logistics for point-to-point delivery within South Asia/Asean/Anz.

Integrated Media-to-cGMP/GMP
