BioGarage

A Cross-Border Launchpad for Biotechnology Innovation

Under the Esco Aster Accelerator Program

BioGarage is a cross-border biotechnology collaboration initiative by Esco Aster and Leave a Nest, designed to connect scientific innovation with industry expertise, strategic networks, investment opportunities, and pathways to commercialization.

By combining Esco Aster’s integrated biomanufacturing capabilities and venture acceleration expertise with Leave a Nest’s deeptech innovation ecosystem, BioGarage creates opportunities for startups to develop technologies, establish strategic partnerships, and expand into new markets. Through this collaborative platform, Esco Aster advances its mission to transform promising scientific ideas into viable biotechnology ventures with real-world impact.

Connecting Innovation Across Borders

Biotechnology innovation requires more than scientific breakthroughs. Startups also need access to specialized infrastructure, technical expertise, strategic capital, industry partners, and commercialization networks to bring their technologies to market. BioGarage seeks to bridge these gaps by connecting innovators across Singapore and Japan and facilitating access to the resources and partnerships needed to advance their ventures.

Through the collaboration, participating innovators can explore opportunities to:

  • Accelerate technology development through access to relevant scientific, technical, and biomanufacturing expertise.
  • Build strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, research institutions, and innovation ecosystem partners.
  • Explore investment opportunities and strengthen their readiness for key venture development milestones.
  • Navigate cross-border market entry by connecting with networks and potential partners in Singapore, Japan, and other international markets.
  • Advance commercialization by aligning scientific development with manufacturing, business strategy, and market needs.
A Collaborative Presence in Japan

BioGarage Esco Aster Japan was introduced at the TAKANAWA GATEWAY Link Scholars' Hub Lab (LiSH Lab), establishing a collaborative presence within Japan’s innovation ecosystem.

Working alongside Leave a Nest, Esco Aster aims to strengthen connections between Japanese deeptech startups and Singapore’s biotechnology and biomanufacturing ecosystem. The collaboration also creates pathways for Singapore-based innovators seeking opportunities in Japan, while supporting Japanese ventures exploring development and commercialization opportunities across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Australia and New Zealand.

Together, the partners aim to foster a more connected environment where biotechnology innovations can progress across borders, supported by complementary expertise, infrastructure, and networks.

First Case Study: ImpacFat

BioGarage’s first case study features ImpacFat, a Singapore-based biotechnology company pioneering cultivated fish fat, following an investment by 144Ventures Pte. Ltd.

The case study highlights the potential of cross-border collaboration in helping innovative biotechnology companies explore new markets and build international partnerships. ImpacFat’s expansion into Japan demonstrates how scientific innovation, strategic investment, and ecosystem collaboration can work together to support commercial development.

Beyond cultivated fish fat, ImpacFat’s work involving proprietary secretomes also presents opportunities for further exploration in extracellular vesicle (EV) research and other potential applications.

Through BioGarage, Esco Aster and Leave a Nest aim to build on this example and identify further opportunities to connect promising biotechnology innovations with the partners, capabilities, and markets needed for growth.

Powered by Esco Aster’s BioInnovation Venture Accelerator

BioGarage complements Esco Aster’s broader BioInnovation Venture Accelerator model, which connects venture development with integrated research, process development, CMC expertise, biomanufacturing infrastructure, strategic capital support, and global commercial networks.

Rather than treating scientific development, manufacturing, fundraising, and commercialization as separate activities, Esco Aster works to connect these capabilities within a coordinated pathway from idea to exit.

Through this approach, BioGarage serves as a cross-border collaboration platform that helps bridge the gap between scientific potential and commercial opportunity.

Building the Next Generation of Global Biotech Ventures

BioGarage reflects a shared commitment to advancing biotechnology through international collaboration, entrepreneurial innovation, and practical pathways to commercialization.

By connecting Singapore and Japan, Esco Aster and Leave a Nest are helping create opportunities for innovators to access new markets, build meaningful partnerships, and translate deeptech breakthroughs into solutions with global relevance.

From scientific discovery to venture creation. From local innovation to global impact.

BioGarage is part of Esco Aster’s continuing commitment to advancing biotechnology ventures through integrated capabilities, strategic collaboration, and a connected global ecosystem.
